Crisfield City Dock

The Crisfield City Dock is located at the end of Main Street (MD 413). The city dock is the landing for mail ships, large commercial ships, and passenger ferries to Smith Island and Reedville, Virginia via Tangier Island. The Crisfield dock location is the premier waterfront location for drawing visitors and locals alike, and a picturesque site for special events, entertainment and community gatherings. The city dock pavilion is a popular site for public events. The dock has been compromised in recent years by storms and is due for repairs and improvements. When they occur, plans are that new venue and vendor space will be added with the planning and engineering for that covered by a $100,000 state grant approved in 2023. Most of the first houses built in Crisfield were placed on piles over marsh or water. To fill the swamp land, oyster shells were used. Today, from the center of the town to the city docks is man-made land of billions of oyster shells crushed compactly together forming the foundation of the larger part of the business section of the city.
