Two Teams Compete in Log Canoe Races

Two Teams Compete in Log Canoe Races

What originally began as work boats for watermen became modified for Log Canoe racing. Larger sails were added to the log canoe to increase speed, but a problem resulted: in a strong wind the boat can tip, so hiking planks were added and crews used their body weight to balance the craft. This is why you see the planks and people over the edge of the boats.
